In the mid-2020s, there’s a lot of focus in the UK on the adequacy of pension provision, with a Commission being (re)established to look into the issue. Minister for Pensions, Torsten Bell MP, said in July 2025:
“The new Pensions Commission has one task: to map out a path to a pensions system that is truly adequate, in the broadest sense of that word” (the Commission will report in 2027, with an Interim Report in Spring 2026).
Whilst the Commission will report on pensions adequacy at a societal level, having enough money to live on throughout later life is a deeply personal issue.
I’ve written about this societal versus personal thinking on adequacy under the notion I’m calling ERICA – Estimated Retirement Income Check for Adequacy.
In addition, in April, May and June 2026, I’m blogging and podcasting about adequacy, across work, life and death – here’s my LinkedIn post trailing the series:
Here are links to the three blog articles (which include links to the three different podcasts within them):
- PART 1 – Your pension springs from work
- PART 2 – Your pension spans life (May 2026)
- PART 3 – Your pension survives death (June 2026)
If you’d like to discuss any of these ideas, please do feel free to get in touch – many thanks.
